Farewell to Fr Paul Roche CM

Sisters in each Mission Heart of the Province in Britain have held farewell gatherings for Fr Paul Roche CM as his 12-year mandate as Provincial Director draws to a close.

Dates of the Celebrations

2 June – Mission Heart Scotland; 22 July – Mission Heart South; 25 July – Mission Heart North

Fr Paul has made a wonderful contribution to the life of the Province in Great Britain. He has been very moved by the thanks and appreciation which he has received from the Sisters as he so warmly expresses in his words below:

 Message from Fr Paul

"Over the past few weeks, I have been having “Send offs” in all the British regions of the Province. Although they were farewell moments, they were also lovely celebrations. Such nice things were being said that I was wondering who they were all talking about! These years, shared with all you Daughters of Charity have given me a new lived experience of the Vincentian way. I came to known life

in community where others were the centre, and the object was caring for those in need. I saw how prayer and life were knitted together both individually and in community. I have been changed, converted, and so I am the one greatly indebted to you all. As the psalmist says:

What return can I make to the Lord?

For all his goodness to me?

The cup of salvation I will raise.

I will offer a thanksgiving sacrifice:

I will call on the name of the Lord. (Ps 116)"

Our thanks to Fr Paul as he sets sail across the Irish Sea back to his homeland. May his feet rest softly on the land and may it be a familiar feeling of walking back on holy ground. Fr Paul will be living in St Paul’s Raheny, Dublin as Superior with his beloved brothers.

Sister Theresa Tighe D.C. (Provincial) welcomed Fr Eugene - "It is with deep joy and heartfelt gratitude that we welcome Fr Eugene, our Vincentian brother, as Provincial Director of our province of Blessed Rosalie Rendu." Theresa went on to say that Eugene's previous ministries have shaped him into a compassionate listener, a thoughtful guide, and a faithful companion on our journey of discernment. As we prepare for our upcoming assemblies under the theme 'Artisans of hope and peace,' Fr Eugene's presence is a sign of God's providence. His accompaniment will help us shape a future that is faithful to our charism and responsive to the needs of those we serve - our own sisters, the poor, the forgotten and all whose lives touch ours in any way. In his homily, Fr Eugene emphasised the notion of accompaniment, walking with people as they discover for themselves the freedom that is theirs as beloved children of God. It is up to us to do what God asks of us in good times and not so good times. He emphasized that we are not in control but God is in control and his grace and mercy extends to all of us.
