Daughter of Charity appointed to Vatican Dicastery

June 25, 2025

A role offering grace, Experience and integrity

A beautiful moment for the Church and for consecrated life: Sister Françoise Petit, Superioress General of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, has been appointed by Pope Leo XIV as a member of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. This appointment, announced on 24 June 2025, is a recognition of Sister Françoise’s deep commitment, missionary spirit, and leadership within the Vincentian tradition. As a member of the Dicastery, she will help guide and accompany religious congregations and apostolic societies around the world, working closely with the Holy See in discerning their paths and supporting their missions. It is a meaningful affirmation of her witness and service - and a moment of joy for the Daughters of Charity, for those living in poverty and for all who value the role of women in the life of the Church.

On Sunday, 6th July 2025, we gathered in Mill Hill with Liz’s mother, family, and friends to joyfully celebrate Sister Liz Smith’s Golden Jubilee as a Daughter of Charity. It was a wonderful afternoon, filled with gratitude and shared memories. In lieu of gifts, Liz generously requested donations in support of the mission in Kenya. We are also delighted to congratulate her on her recent appointment as Regional for Kenya, which forms part of the Province of Ireland. Warmest congratulations to Aine, to Liz, and to all the Sisters in the Company who have faithfully nurtured those new shoots now flourishing after 25 years.
