A Thanksgiving for Community Life and Mission

On Thursday, 6th March 2025, a Eucharistic Celebration was held at St Louise's Southport to give thanks for the life and mission of the Community there since 2011. Father Paul Roche C.M. celebrated the Mass. Father Paul emphasized that our Community houses are our homes, a place where we feel at home. A place where we can express our opinions and our voices are heard and respected. It is the place where we are loved as companions, striving together to follow the call of Jesus through the Vincentian charism. As such, there is sadness when our houses close but we are on a life-long journey of hope and so we look to the future with joyful confidence.

On 28th October 2025 the two Missions of Kenya and Tanzania will merge to become the new Region of East Africa. Mass was celebrated to mark this wonderful new, life-giving venture in the history of the Company in East Africa. Sister Françoise Petit, (Superioress General) Sister Julie Kubasak and Sister Theresa Eke (General Councillors)travelled to Kenya for the celebrations. The Kenya Mission, as part of the Irish Province, was established in 2002 and Tanzania, as part of the Province of Congo, was established in 2006. Kenya has 7 local communities and 40 sisters. Tanzania has 9 sisters and two local communities. Earlier this year Sr Francoise Petit, Superioress General, initiated dialogue and consultation with all the sisters in Tanzania and Kenya. It was agreed that a new Region should be established as part of the Irish Province. This new region will be under the patronage of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Recently, after consultation, Sr Liz Smith was appointed as the new Regional Superior for the Region of East Africa . Sr. Lawrencilla Kiambi, Sr Josephine Kimeu, Sr Irene Okumu and Sr Stella Maris Mgaya William are the new councillors.
