Daughters of Charity Services was established in 2012 to unite six Vincentian charities under one structure, providing governance, infrastructure and formation support during a period of transition - from Daughter-led to lay-led leadership. Over the past 14 years, this model has served its purpose well. It's member charities have matured, strengthened their governance, deepened their commitment to the Vincentian charism, and today are thriving largely as independent organisations.
In light of these changes, Daughters of Charity Services' Board of Trustees commissioned Sister Ellen Flynn DC to undertake a comprehensive review of the organisation. This review involved extensive consultations with key stakeholder groups, including CEOs, staff and those closely involved since its foundation.
KEY FINDINGS
The report shows a strong consensus across all stakeholder groups that Daughters of Charity Services, in its current form, has fulfilled its original purpose and reached the end of its useful life. The possibility of staying together in a different way was among the findings.
As a result, the current group structure will be dissolved. By 31 March 2026, the existing member charities will become fully independent charities, no longer operating under a parent-subsidiary model.
OUR FUTURE
This is a pivotal moment for the organisation. Looking ahead, a discernment facilitator has been appointed to explore and co-design a new model with existing member charities. This work will begin in March with the aim of shaping proposals in April.
Throughout their history, the Daughters of Charity have continually adapted their structures and ministries in order to respond to emerging forms of poverty. This decision reflects that same commitment to mission-led responsiveness, faithful to the spirit of St Vincent and St Louise.
