"Pilgrims of Hope" Jubilee Youth Gathering

 

What is the gathering all about?

Many young people from all over the world will converge on Rome to participate int the "Pilgrims of Hope" Jubilee Youth Gathering. They gathering takes place from July 28 to August 3, 2025, and is part of the larger Jubilee Year, which Pope Francis declared. It is specifically focused on young people aged 16 and over. The gathering will involve a pilgrimage to Rome, participation in Jubilee events, and opportunities for spiritual renewal and reflection. 

The occasion offers a week-long journey of faith and renewal which invites young people to become “Pilgrims of Hope”. Pope Francis encouraged young people to join the gathering, by telling them, “You are the joyful hope of a Church and of a humanity which is always on the move.

So what will happen in Rome?

The week-long event will include various cultural, artistic, and spiritual activities in Rome, culminating in a final weekend celebration with the Pope at Tor Vergata. Following the gathering, the celebration ends just before the canonization of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frasatti, a young SVP member, and Blessed Carlo Acutis, making it a particularly significant event for young Catholics. 

Here's a more detailed look at the schedule:

  • July 28 - 31:

Cultural, artistic, and spiritual activities in Rome, with a Welcome Mass on July 29th in Saint Peter's Square. 

  • August 1:

Full day in Rome with events, a visit to the Holy Door, and free time for exploration. 

  • August 2:

Pilgrimage to Tor Vergata, followed by entertainment, music, and testimonies, culminating in an evening vigil with the Holy Father. 

  • August 3:

Holy Mass presided over by the Holy Father at Tor Vergata, followed by the return pilgrimage. 

 

Following the gathering, on September 7th, Pope Leo will celebrate Mass for canonisation of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frasatti, a young SVP member, and Blessed Carlo Acutis, making it a particularly significant event for young Catholics.

On 28th October 2025 the two Missions of Kenya and Tanzania will merge to become the new Region of East Africa. Mass was celebrated to mark this wonderful new, life-giving venture in the history of the Company in East Africa. Sister Françoise Petit, (Superioress General) Sister Julie Kubasak and Sister Theresa Eke (General Councillors)travelled to Kenya for the celebrations. The Kenya Mission, as part of the Irish Province, was established in 2002 and Tanzania, as part of the Province of Congo, was established in 2006. Kenya has 7 local communities and 40 sisters. Tanzania has 9 sisters and two local communities. Earlier this year Sr Francoise Petit, Superioress General, initiated dialogue and consultation with all the sisters in Tanzania and Kenya. It was agreed that a new Region should be established as part of the Irish Province. This new region will be under the patronage of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Recently, after consultation, Sr Liz Smith was appointed as the new Regional Superior for the Region of East Africa . Sr. Lawrencilla Kiambi, Sr Josephine Kimeu, Sr Irene Okumu and Sr Stella Maris Mgaya William are the new councillors.
