A new vincentian saint for today
Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati is an example of lay holiness—young, joyful, and deeply committed to serving the poor. Born in Turin, Italy in 1901, he came from a prominent family but chose a life of humility and charity. He was known for his mountain climbing adventures, his love of the Eucharist, and his tireless work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He died of polio at just 24, having contracted it while ministering to the sick.
He was canonized on 7th September 2025, alongside
Carlo Acutis, in a ceremony led by Pope Leo XIV. Frassati’s life was described as “joy through suffering,” and he became known as the “Man of the Beatitudes,” a title first given to him by Pope John Paul II during his beatification in 1990. His incorrupt body now rests in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, near the Holy Shroud. He’s a patron of youth, mountaineers, and Catholic Action, and his legacy continues to inspire young people around the world to live their faith boldly and compassionately.
