In 2026, the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul give thanks for a century of compassionate service, mission and presence among the people of Australia.

CENTENARY MASSES
Celebrating in Prayer
and Thanksgiving
At the heart of the Centenary will be Celebration Masses, offering an opportunity to give thanks for God’s faithfulness, honour the Sisters who have served, and gather in gratitude, prayer and hope for the future.
Celebration Mass with
the Superioress General
A special Mass will be celebrated as part of the Centenary year, with the Superior General present. Full details, including date, venue and live stream information, will be shared closer to the celebration.
Parish Community Celebration Mass
A local celebration will also be held with the parish community, giving thanks for 100 years of mission, service and shared history in Australia.

Beginning of the Daughters of Charity
In 1633, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac founded the Daughters of Charity in Paris, France
Bishop requests assistance
Bishop O'Farrell travels to Europe and makes his "ad limina" and asks for the Daughters of the good Monsieur Vincent to assist the work of the Bathurst Diocese. He then travelled to Mill Hill to with the same request
Sisters leave UK
Embarking on a life of selfless service and compassion for the poor and sick, the first four pioneer Sisters left London on the "Cathay" for Australia
Foundation stone laid
Bishop Norton lays the foundation stone for St Mary's School East Orange, NSW
More Sisters arrive
Another group of Sisters arrive in Australia from Mill Hill
St Anne's Hall Carlton
St Anne's Hall in Carlton, VIC, is blessed by the Archbishop in May, 1930
Third Foundation - Murray Dwyer
Murray Dwyer Orphanage and School, Mayfield, NSW
Opening of the Central House Eastwood
In April 1939, on Palm Sunday, the Central House in Eastwood, NSW, was officially blessed and opened by the Archbishop of Sydney
Holy Family House, Lismore
Sisters asked to seek out the Catholic children and visit the poor and sick
Albert Street East Melbourne
Opening of 44 Albert St, East Melbourne, VIC, a house for parish visiting Sisters and resources for the poor
Marillac House Brighton
Opeing of Marillac House, East Brighton, VIC.
St Vincents Hall Fitzroy
Opeing of St Vincents Hall, Fitzroy, a "home away from home" for girls from the country working in the city of Melbourne
St Joseph's Nursery School East Sydney
Opening of the first nursery school, Woolloomooloo, East Sydney, NSW for children of migrant women who worked
St Joseph's Sandgate
Home for the Aged and sick of the Diocese of Maitland at Ironbark Hill, Sandgate, NSW
St Catherine's Fitzroy
An aged facility for 13 women that later moved to Balwyn
"Maryknoll" Strathfield
"Maryknoll" was established as a hostel for country girls working in and around Strathfield, NSW
Chullora Migrant Camp
School for the Chullora Migrant camp, NSW, including migrants from Poland, Czech republic, Greece, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Holland and Yugoslavia, many of whom had known the hardships of war, hunger and displacement
St Louise's House Hutt Street
Visitation of the poor in both East and West sections of the Parish, and distribution of food and clothing to the needy in Adelaide, South Australia
St Vincent's Mount Lawley
The first House of the Community in WA, it accommodated 12 patients as a "C" class hospital
St Vincent's Guildford
Patients were moved from Mount Lawley to the new St Vincent’s Hospital for the Aged and Incapacitated, Perth, WA, in late 1956
