DCS Report Urges Action on Adult Social Care Crisis

June 27, 2024

Social Care in England

As we near a General Election on the 4th July 2024 Daughters of Charity Services (DCS) has released a critical report:
“SEARCHING FOR CONSENSUS”,  on the Adult Social Care sector calling for urgent government action. Based on the findings from the DCS's 2023 survey of 205 social care providers, the report analyses the sector's views on challenges with recruitment, retention, and funding within the sector and outlines the policy solutions needed to tackle them. The Report addresses the following issues:

- The Social Care Recruitment Crisis

- Retaining talent in the sector

- Ensuring the system is funded for the future

Mark Corea, Research and Policy Officer at DCS, said: "People in care deserve a system that is robust, well-funded, and capable of meeting growing demand. Our findings clearly show that without significant and long-term Government intervention, the adult social care sector will continue to struggle. We must act now to ensure that care providers and frontline workers are at the heart of these reforms."

The Daughters of Charity Services is a family of charities seeking to challenge the exclusion of vulnerable and marginalised people across Great Britain. Our members include three social care organisations: Vincentian Care Plus in Westminster, the Marillac Neurological Centre in Brentwood, and St Joseph's in Midlothian.

The DCS seeks to build on the legacy of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, seeking out those in poverty and providing services to them, across the United Kingdom.
